Quebec Focus: Upcoming Voices

This vibrant program features six films of emerging Quebec filmmakers that stood out in past editions of REGARD – Saguenay International Short Film Festival. We begin with a typical trip to village life in Quebec, infused with the magical sounds of traditional music. Next, we embark on a road trip to the beach with the lovely Madeleine, who is 107 years old, and her 40-year-old friend. The comedy Les fleurs sauvages may remind you of that friend who leaves you endless messages on your voicemail. We invite you to a surrealist banquet with mothers…and their monsters. We move in rhythm with the footsteps of Catherine’s Atikamekw ancestors. Finally, we close with the remarkable Simo, a powerful and modern tribute to immigrant families grappling with prejudice and cultural challenges.

Founded in 1995, REGARD – Saguenay International Short Film Festival is one of the most important short film festivals in North America. Based in Quebec, the Oscar Qualifying Festival presents over 200 short films from all around the world and hosts the only short film market in Quebec.
