In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, the director found herself grappling with haunting questions. Compelled to seek answers to navigate her pain, she turned to science as a last hope. Embarking on a journey with Professor Cristina, the exploration centers on unraveling the mysteries of the land – probing its essence and questioning the existence of a memory or connection between the land and its inhabitants.
About the director:
Anna Mkrtumyan is a documentary filmmaker from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) whose work is deeply rooted in the lived experiences of her community. As an Armenian from Artsakh, she draws on her personal history of growing up amidst conflict and witnessing displacement firsthand. Her films explore themes of resilience, identity, and the ongoing struggle for justice.
She recently graduated from the DocNomads Joint Master’s Program in Documentary Filmmaking, an international program based in Portugal, Hungary, and Belgium.
Alongside filmmaking, Anna is actively engaged as an artist and activist from a conflict zone. She has participated in international peacebuilding and human rights storytelling programs, including B2B Doc and the WARM Academy.
