On the warmest day of the year, two boys meet. A few hours later a pigeon gets trapped with them. During this heatwave, all creatures dream of escaping from the city that’s burning.

 

About the director:

Born in Chania, Greece, Stavros Markoulakis is a writer, director, and film programmer. His films, balancing between the real and the imaginary, aim to research the state of belonging, the different ways of perceiving time and reality, as well as the human relationships and non-human connections in our universe. His sophomore film, “Pigeons are Dying, when the City is on Fire” (2023), a poetic tale of urban love and cosmic fire, premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival (2023) and screened at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (2024). He is currently developing his debut feature film “Sunbruise”. He is a Locarno Industry Academy & Sarajevo Talents Alumnus and has worked in various positions in the Programme and Industry departments of film festivals such as IFFR, IDFA, Thessaloniki FF etc.
